Overcoming Obstacles

We are all human.  We have faults. We have weaknesses. As hard as we try, we can never be perfect.  Any journey is going to be a lot harder if what you’re striving for is perfection.  You will have bad days, you will have obstacles and probably there will be times where you will become so overwhelmed that you will feel like giving up.  Strive to do your best, strive to make good choices and strive to continue to work towards your goals.
Think of your goal and the journey to it like a staircase. Each step that you take is one step closer to reaching your goal.  Taking one step or even 2 steps back down, does not mean that you will not reach your goal. Sometimes we need to take a step back to get recharged and give us the energy to keep pushing on and sometimes we just need to hang out on that stair for a little while before taking the next step.  Allow yourself a break every now and then.  It’s much better to allow yourself a break when you need it then to suddenly find yourself so overwhelmed or exhausted that you give up on your goal altogether. Focus on your accomplishments and try to replace any negative feelings that you may have with good feelings of reaching your final goal. Picture yourself already at your goal and feel how great it feels to be there!
It takes a lot of small goals to achieve one big one. Break your goal into many small ones and be proud of each and every small goal that you achieve while working towards your big goal.  If you slip up, so what!?! Do not “beat yourself up” about it. Instead brush yourself off, move on and keep on working towards your goal.
“Take the first step in faith. You do not have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step. “
- Martin Luther King Jr.
Wishing you the best of luck in achieving all of your goals and hoping that you find the strength to overcome all of your own obstacles to getting there!!
